Why Clean Jokes?

There seems to be a shortage of good, clean jokes in the world. Telling a joke is similar to explaining the gospel.  There are short and long jokes.  Different jokes resonate more with some people than others. A good joke teller thinks through the wording, the delivery, the audience, the timing.  A random comment will remind you of a specific joke and the joke fits in the conversation (not sure if puns are as welcome).  The more you tell jokes, the better you get at reading the audience and the better you get at telling jokes.  Some jokes make you think; some just get an immediate reaction.

For example, the following is wonderful in a large room with people seated at tables.  You say “bartender” rather than “bar tender,” then chuckle as pockets of laughter erupt.

The termite walked into the bar and asked, “Is the bar tender here?”
