Cool Number Dates – 1/4/15-1/10/15

The first cool date of the year is coming up on Thursday – 1/8/15 is a sequence of 7’s:

1 + 7 = 8;  8 + 7 = 15   OR

15 – 8 = 8 – 1 = 7

A sequence of one’s we recognize easily; you probably heard that 12/13/14 was the last “one” of those until next century. Take heart, there are more than thirty years of various sequences upcoming before we run out this century!

Today’s Odometer

todayodometer

Check out the odometer reading on my 2004 Honda Pilot, as it sits RIGHT NOW  (12/28/14, 4:45PM)

The MSU women’s basketball team just lost, the Lions are likely to lose, but  THIS is cool.

Last year, I tried to hit an odometer reading but drove too many miles, and ended up with November 44th, 2013. So it is especially sweet that the mile turned over just down the street and I could slide right into the driveway.  Come over quick if you want to see it.

I don’t plan to drive 100 miles tomorrow to hit 122914, and I don’t plan to let the car sit for a year to hit 122815, so this is it until I get a different vehicle. No month 13 in sight, although I could go European and put the day before the month.

The word problem for today, is either (a) how many miles does this man drive in a year, or (b) how many days has it been since the last odometer posting on this blog?

Cool Number Dates – 12/28/14-1/3/15

Two weeks ago there were four even-numbered dates; last week there were three; and this week there are just two: 12/28/14 and 12/30/14.  Next year – 2015 – there are none, but there are lots of dates that are all divisible by 3 or 5.  For those interested, the next time there are exactly TWO even-numbered dates in the same week will be the week starting May 29, 2016; there are two even dates in June.

Also, look for the CoolNumbers2015 listing.

Cool Number Dates – 12/21/14-12/27/14

There is a Minus Subtract day this week – 12/26/14, because 12 – 26 = -14.

Once again, this week may look like just another week with lots of  even numbers for month, day, and year.  Last week there were four, this week there are three: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are 12/22 12/24, and 12/26.   But say goodbye for a while.  The next time one week has exactly three all-even numbered dates is  more than a year away – the week of January 31, 2016 – the even numbered dates are all in February, but the week starts in January!

Cool Number Dates – 12/14/14-12/20/14

This month’s half-back day is Tuesday, 12/16/14. Go up four from 12 to 16 and come halfway back from 16 to 14.

This week may look like just another week with lots of even numbers for month, day, and year.  There are four such dates: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday are 12/14, 12/16, 12/18, and 12/20.   But say goodbye for a while.  The next time one week has four all-even numbered dates is  more than a year away – the week of February 14, 2016.

Cool Number Dates – 11/9/14-11/15/14

Since there are no identified cool number dates this week, I will take the opportunity to share cool number facts from my very own life. All of these are related to going from age 63 to 64 last week.

  1. Diane and I were married at age 21 and reached our 42nd anniversary last year. So we have been married twice as long as we were single.
  2. Our son Jesse just turned 32 and I just turned 64; I am twice as old as he is.
  3. 64 is equal to 8 squared, 4 cubed, and 2 to the sixth. Granddaughter Molly is six; I am 2 to the sixth.
